CIDOB is a leading Spanish think-tank research centre devoted to international relations, ranked in the 36th position (among the top 176) of think-tanks worldwide (Go-to-Think-Tanks Index report, University of Pennsylvania). CIDOB aims to bridging policy-oriented and academic research, and has a strong interdisciplinary approach, being involved in a permanent dialogue with policy-makers and by generating opinion directly and through the media. Its team of 35 professionals work on European integration, human security, foreign policy, migration, regionalism as well as cities governance, Mediterranean and Middle East, Asia and Latin American issues, among others. CIDOB is a member of leading research networks such as the Trans European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA), the European Policy Institutes Network (EPIN), EUROMESCO, and the Euro-Mediterranean Network for Economic Studies (EMNES).

CIDOB has implemented its applied research in many EU funded projects: it currently coordinates the Jean Monnet Network Europe – Cuba Forum and participates in 3 other Jean Monnet networks (on Atlantic Studies; on EU-Turkey relations; and on Europe and democracies). CIDOB has also participated in 8 H2020 projects, and coordinated the MENARA Project on geopolitical and regional order in the MENA. The centre participates in 3 EU funded projects on migrants’ integration and was the coordinator of 3 FP7 projects, one of them related Arab youth perceptions, conditions and engagement (SAHWA). With regards to terrorism, counterterrorism and preventing violent extremism (PVE), CIDOB has hosted several international seminars and produced numerous academic and policy-oriented outputs. It organized an international research seminar on Resilient Cities. Countering Violent Extremism at Local Level (2017), followed by the publication of a book on Resilient Cities. At the policy level, CIDOB was commissioned by the Barcelona City Council in 2018 to produce a Comparative Study on PVE strategies in Europe at Local Level. It also hosted an international conference for policy-makers on counterterrorism and PVE strategies in North Africa (funded by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Foundation, 2018). Recently, CIDOB conducted a one-year Research Study on “The role of women and youth in PVE” focused on seven Euro-Mediterranean countries: France, Germany, Jordan, Morocco, Spain, Tunisia and the United Kingdom (2018-2019, funded by the Union for the Mediterranean).
